Weight Watchers Point Calculator

The Weight Watchers Point Calculator is used to determine the points content of different foods and recipes. You have to input the number of calories, the grams of fat and the grams of dietary fiber with a maximum value of 4. The Weight Watchers Point Calculator will return an integer with the fractional values rounded to the nearest point

Weight Watchers employs a minimum weight level to determine whether you are actually overweight. If you are overweight you are assigned a certain amount of points which you are allowed to consume per day depending on your current weight. Using sufficient exercise you can increase the number of allowed points.

The calculator uses the Weight Watchers Point Formula to calculate the points content of a specific food, which is:

p = [c/50] + [f/12] - [min (r,4)]/5

where,

p = number of points

c = number of calories

f = the grams of fat

r = the grams of dietary fiber with a maximum value of 4

The Weight Watchers Points value is always an integer, with fractional values rounded to the nearest point.

The calculator assigns points to foods based upon the size of the portion, the amount of fibre, the quantity of fat and the number of calories in each serving. In general, high fat means a high points value and high fibre means a low points value. The daily allowance for members is dependent upon things like body weight and the desired weight loss.

In simple terms every 50 calories is a single Weight Watchers point, 12 fat grams is a single Weight Watchers point, and for each fiber gram you take away 1/5th of a weight watcher point, up to a maximum of 4 fiber grams. The final points value will be the total points rounded to the nearest whole number.

By reading the nutritional value on the package anybody can calculate the points content on any food using the weight watchers point calculator. If the nutritional label is not available, books are there for purchase that lists thousands of foods for sale in Fast Food outlets, restaurant chains, and even generic restaurant foods.

To lose weight on Weight Watchers system a person must stay within their given points range, although 35 additional points are allowed to be used for the entire week, ie your daily allowance times 7 plus 35.

The most attractive feature of Weight Watchers system is that the participant is not restricted from eating any specific type of food, as long as they stay under their total point value for the week. This stands in marked contrast to other diet approaches under which some foods are completely forbidden and others are permitted in theoretically unlimited amounts. The participant's ability to factor exercise into the plan increases its flexibility: the participant can eat more points as long as he offsets them with exercise, or eat fewer points if he prefers not to exercise. By not restricting certain foods it allows for your favorites by just giving each food item a point value. Many Weight Watchers proponents enjoy the system precisely because no food is out of bounds, as long as it is eaten in moderation, and because exercise can be factored in.

Weight Watchers is a company offering various dieting products and services to assist weight loss. It was founded by Jean Nidetch in 1960s as a discussion group for how to best lose weight and now it operates in about 30 countries around the world.
