DIET TO INCREASE METABOLISM

So you want to boost your metabolism enough to eat anything you want without gaining weight, you could be disappointed. There really isn't a fool proof diet to increase metabolism, but there are very simple things you can do to boost it. Drinking plenty of water is one of those things we can do.

Water is an essential ingredient in boosting our metabolic rate. The reason is simple. Of all the nutrients we take in, water is one of the most important for overall health. In fact that people can survive and do, much longer without food than they can water.

If the body is deprived of enough water, the liver tries compensate by forcing the body to keep what liquids it does get. When it goes into water retention mode, it is not concentrating on other important jobs, such as burning calories and fat. As this occurs, it's possible weight will climb because of the body's refusal to burn enough calories, but also due to water retention itself.

If you want to help your metabolism work efficiently, hydration is crucial. To ensure you drink enough water every day there are ways to make it easier. You don't need to line up eight glasses and slurp them all down before breakfast. Instead, consider doing this:

  • Carry a water bottle. A water bottle swig every now and then is a good way to ensure you are always hydrated. Take this in the car, to the office, to school etc. Refill it as required.

  • Limiting caffeine. Try to keep the caffeine intake limited. Caffeine is a diuretic, which can undo your efforts.

  • Mixing it up. Your body needs a certain amount of water each day, but that doesn't mean you have to drink 6 bottles of spring water, it can come from other sources, consider low sugar fruit juice, green tea or other drinks. The main ingredient is still water and this does count.

While water in itself will not supercharge your metabolism, making sure you get enough water can help you a great deal. When your body is well hydrated, it functions much better. This combined with a good diet and basic exercises can help you see the results you desire.
